The last 11 months...

I've completely lost my mind.  Really and truly.  I've finally lost it.  I've spent the last 10 months doing something I am pretty sure I swore I would never do.

In January I started going to a gym.  Not just any gym.  A crossfit gym.  I know.  I hear you all now.  "That's just like that crazy heifer!  She can't do anything half way." I've always said "Go big, or go home!"

I was pretty sure for the first 3 months that I would probably die.  Every time I walked in the door, I prayed that the paramedics were close by so that they could save my life.  I had never been so exhausted or sore in all my days.  During this time I was a "closet crossfitter." The only people that knew what I was doing were my employer and my husband.  I would not tell my friends or my children.  Mainly because I was embarrassed & afraid.  I was embarrassed that I didn't fit the image that pops up when you google: crossfit women. I was afraid that I wasn't strong enough and that I would quit.  I showed up.  Did the work.  Got stronger and made a friend & found a workout buddy.

3 months into this adventure, my new friend and I decided we should start going to crossfit 3 says a week.  It was completely uncomfortable for me.  That meant we would start going to a "regular" class.  Up until that point we had been in a class with training wheels.  We took crossfit baby steps and toddled along.

Something clicked during those days.  I felt exponentially stronger and physical issues that plagued me subsided.  I started really and truly enjoying what I was doing.  Don't get me wrong.  I was still terrified.  (To be perfectly honest, sometimes I still am.) But I couldn't deny that it felt good to be strong.  It felt good to walk in and stare down the WOD (workout of the day) fully believing that there was no way in God's Green Earth that I would be able to do that.  And then to not only be able to do the WOD but to actually be able to do something I wasn't able to do even 2 weeks prior!  There is no feeling like it.

So 5 months in I started working out 5 days a week.  I wasn't just going to the gym anymore.  I was making changes and making gains in strength and endurance.  And it was the beginning of summer.  I knew it was gonna be a miserable crappy nightmare.  Georgia in the summer is unbearable.  It is worse when you are in a crossfit gym in Georgia in the summer. (Apparently Air Conditioning is work weenies?)

So we are starting the 11th month of the adventure.  I have been working hard for 11 months!  That is unreal. I honestly love it.  I will tell anyone that asks (and many that don't), that this is by far the single best thing that I ever decided to do.

I have surgery scheduled just before Thanksgiving.  My doc says I will be out for 6 weeks.  I'm already figuring out how to get around that.  If it means sitting and watching other people get a new PR and cheering--then so be it.  Six weeks isn't such a long time...I've got the rest of my life to set some records of my own.
